Political communication shapes elections, drives social movements and frames how we understand the world. As AI reshapes how content is created and disinformation spreads at scale, the stakes for getting communication right - and for calling it out when it goes wrong, have never been higher. This MA prepares you to meet that moment, analysing political messaging critically and practising it professionally across journalism, policy, advocacy and communications. You'll explore the full landscape of contemporary political messaging: how governments and institutions manage media relations, how visual communication influences public perception, and how international crises are framed and reported. Optional modules examine the mechanics of conspiracy theories, the weaponisation of digital media, and the use of radio and technology in conflict-affected areas, giving you a genuinely global perspective on the challenges facing political communication today. The programme balances critical analysis with practical application. You'll develop skills in communicating through the media, including press conferences, interviews and news releases, as well as designing your own communication campaign. A thorough grounding in social science research methods prepares you to conduct independent research in your area of interest, which you'll develop into a dissertation that will help you build your professional portfolio for the job market.

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in any subject. We assess each application on the basis of the applicant’s preparation and achievement as a whole. We may accept applicants whose qualifications don’t meet the published entry criteria but have other experience relevant to the course.
