The Sheffield LLM is a flexible programme designed for graduates who have had previous exposure to legal subjects and who wish to build expert legal knowledge and skills. In our Sheffield LLM, you’ll: You’ll study at a degree designed to give you expert legal knowledge, at one of the UK’s top universities for graduate prospects in Law (The Times UK University Rankings 2026). You’ll work on a dissertation with expert supervision from our staff and will be encouraged to undertake your own independent research to support your learning. You’ll have opportunities to get involved with conferences and research seminars, many of which involve visiting experts from the UK and overseas, as well as staff from the School of Law. Our Sheffield LLM is ideal if you’re looking for a strong foundation covering a range of areas of study within the legal field with maximum flexibility on optional module choice. You can choose modules from across our whole range of LLM pathways, as detailed below. If you prefer to specialise in a particular subject area, the Sheffield LLM also offers you the option to follow one of two specialist pathways: Our LLM Corporate and Commercial Law is designed for students and lawyers who wish to specialise in the commercial field and pursue careers predominantly in the private sector.

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate honours degree in a relevant subject. We accept degrees in the following subject areas: We assess each application on the basis of the applicant’s preparation and achievement as a whole. We may accept applicants whose qualifications don’t meet the published entry criteria but have other experience relevant to the course. If required degree subjects and modules are listed, these are indicative only. Sometimes we may accept subjects or modules that aren’t listed, and sometimes we may not accept subjects or modules that are listed, depending on the content studied.
